History, Goals and Operational Approach
Scouts BSA Troop 379B and 379G was founded in November 2022 with the charter organization Hurst-Euless-Bedford American Legion Post 379. We are a new Troop but our leadership has a legacy in scouting. Our Scoutmasters have 57 combined years of experience in scouting. Our Committee Chair earned his Eagle Scout. Even though, we are a new troop, we have high hopes for the future and hope you will join us to build that future.
Scouts work within their patrol of 6 to 8 scouts on advancement requirements while they camp, cook, hike, solve problems, and perform service projects together while having fun. As new Scouts join, they are placed in a “New Scout Patrol.” (Patrol name TBA later). The goal of our Troop program for new Scouts is to reach the rank of First Class within their first year in the Troop. Troop Guides (older youth leaders) are assigned to the New Scout Patrol to help meet this goal.
To accomplish the Aims of Scouting, Troop 379 uses the Methods of Scouting:
Ideals - The Ideals of Scouting are spelled out in the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout Motto and Scout Slogan. Each Scout measures themselves against these ideals, sets goals and works to improve.
Patrol Method - The patrol method gives Scouts an experience in group living and participatory citizenship. It places responsibility on young shoulders and teaches Scouts how to accept it.
Outdoors - Scouting is designed to take place outdoors. It is in the outdoors that Scouts share responsibility and learn to live with each other. It is here that Scout Skills come alive with purpose
Advancement – Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and steps to overcome them through the Advancement Method. The steps in the advancement system help a Scout grow in self-confidence and the ability to help others.
Adult Association - Scouts learn from the examples set by their adult leaders. Frequent personal conferences with various adult leaders help each Scout determine their growth.
Personal Growth - As Scouts plan their activities and progress towards their goals, they experience personal growth. Young people grow as they participate in community service projects and do good turns for others.
Leadership Development – Scouts are encouraged to learn and practice leadership skills. Understanding the concepts of leadership helps a Scout accept the leadership roles of others and guides him toward the Citizenship aim of Scouting.
Uniform - The uniform makes the Scout Troop visible as a force for good and creates a positive youth image in the community. The uniform gives the Scout identity with other youth who believe in the same ideals.
Troop 379 loves helping Webelos and Arrow of Light earn requirements for their ranks. If you would like to partner on some activities, please contact us.
